| Artist/Band: | | Greg Fishman & Paulinho Garcia | | Name: | | Two For Brazil | | Cat No.: | | CD-3374 | | Performed by: | | Greg Fishman (flute,tenor sax) Paulinho Garcia (guitar,vocal)
| | Release Date: | | 01/01/2002 | | Description: | | Two For Brazil is a duo unit formed by tenor saxophonist/flutist Greg Fishman and the Brazilian-born singer/guitarist Paulinho Garcia. Their warm, intimate, direct approach recalls the legendary pairing of Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz, but they cover a wider range of material - not just the familiar hits by Jobim, but Brazilian songs from the 1920s up to contemporary compositions by Djavan, Ivan Lins and Milton Nascimento, among others.
They have recorded at least four albums and toured world-wide, but this debut CD, released in 2002, shows their roots. In addition to five immortal songs recorded by Getz and Gilberto, they include material that shows the breadth of Brazilian music, including the up-tempo opener by Edu Lobo, the cute "O Pato," and "Pedro Brazil" by Djavan.
Their perfect rapport is readily apparent, and the music they create sounds so natural and delightful that the listener tends to forget how much skill is involved. Technically marvelous, intimate and heart-warming, Two For Brazil is one of the great long-standing duos of our time.
Produced by Judy Roberts and Akio Sasajima. Recorded by Chris Sabold at CHicago Recording Company CRC, Chicago, IL. Released in 2002 by Jazzmin Records. | | Eastwind Import Price: | |
