Dutch pianist Jos Van Beest grew up in a musical family. His father, also a professional Jazz piano player, sadly died much too early at 46 when Jos was only three years old. It was Jos' older brother (also a much respected Jazz piano player), who introduced Jos as early as at the age of seven to Jazz concerts, together listening relentlessly to their great role models Erroll Garner, Art Tatum, George Shearing and Oscar Peterson.
After having played in several Jazz bands, Jos' musical career started taking off in 1981. For 15 years, he was also a regular musician at the Dutch International Radio Service where he performed in numerous broadcasts worldwide.
Winner of numerous awards, Jos Van Beest swings smoothly and has a personal interpretation of Jazz music in his extensive repertoire. His pieces often start with improvised intros where themes are introduced in a surprising way.
In 1993 his debut album Because of You
featuring his trio was issued. It was an ?ein-house?f production by the bass player Evert J. Woud. Soon after his meeting with legendary jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, the debut album Because of You
was launched in Japan by Atelier Sawano and became a big hit in that country.
In 2002 the second trio album was launched, called Everything for You
. That same year three very successful concerts were given in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan. In March 2004 the third album was launched in Japan called Swingin' Softly
. This album also received much welcome and achieved high ranking in the Japanese Jazz Charts.
