Isao Suzuki's musical career began in 1956 when he played bass at an American military camp. In 1970 he went to New York at an encouragement by Art Blakey and joined his legendary group Jazz Messnegers.
One of the leading jazz bassists for over 50 years, he has played with George Kawaguchi, Sadao Watanabe, Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, Wynton Kelly, Ron Carter, Charles Mingus, Paul Desmond, Bobby Timmons, Jim Hall, Philly Joe Jones, Duke Pearson, Kenny Burrell and Mal Waldron.
Suzuki has more than 50 leader albums in his belt. Perhaps most famous among them is Blow Up, recorded for the Three Blind Mice label, which received the prestigious Japan Jazz Award and have been admired for its quality of music and sound to this day.
