| | Release Date: | | 06/25/2012 | | Description: | | Based in Portland, Oregon, Rebecca Kilgore is a veteran vocalist who has released over 30 albums. Influenced by Maxine Sullivan and Anita O'Day, her sunny voice and impeccable sense of swing have attracted many fans in the US and abroad.
In August 2011, she teamed up with tenor saxophonist Harry Allen and his quartet to perform songs made famous or associated with Marilyn Monroe at Feinstein's in New York, which received great reviews and was appreciated by the audience. This CD was recorded in studio with the same group five months after their 5-day engagement at Feinstein's.
The performances here may appear to cross the line into cabaret at times, but with the first-rate singer and stellar musicians, they are infused with the sophisticated sensibility of jazz. A great singer, Kilgore knows better than to "ape" Monroe, and performs these romantic, often light-hearted songs with impeccable taste. A very enjoyable vocal album. Recommended!
