| | Release Date: | | 03/27/2013 | | Description: | | German pianist Tizian Jost has released several wonderful albums from the Japanese label Atelier Sawano including The Night Has A Thousand Eyes and We Will Meet Again that mostly featured swinging collections of standards and jazz composer's songbook.
His latest trio album, released from Enja of Germany, is dedicated to the label's founder Horst Weber who had planned to produce it but passed away in February 2012. The program is all original compositions by Jost, and in contrary to what one might expect for this type of a tribute album, the two words to best describe the overall tone is "swinging" and "colorful." There are a few somber pieces like the title track, but some a majority of the tracks is upbeat, fun and even downright funky, reflecting Jost's influences from Tommy Flanagan and Horace Silver.
Recorded at the wonderful Pirouet Studio in Munich, the quality of the recorded sound is very good. Recommended to fans of piano trios!
