Description:Dominick Farinacci is a truly talented, young American trumpet player who has everything you could ask for in a jazz musician: class, charm, taste and skill in equal measures. Interestingly, he is possibly more popular and better known in Japan where he has already released eight albums, including this latest release.

Farinacci, who was born in 1983 in Cleveland, started playing trumpet at age 11 and was already playing at local jazz clubs at age 13. In 1999 he met Wynton Marsalis, who took him under his wings. His clean, rich tone and melodic approach reminds one of Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard. His logical but fiery solos on fast tunes show Marsalis' strong influences.

This is his eighth leader album released in Japan. The program opens with a knock-out "You Don't Know What Love Is," a dark, lyrical rendition with a twist of modern rhythmic treatment. The various percussion instruments played by Keita Ogawa add depth and width to the soundscape, and the piano solo by Dan Kaufman adds a decidedly modern touch. Farinacci's playing here is technically impeccable and emotionally satisfying. This opening number alone is worth the price of admission, but it only gets better as the program proceeds.

This is a triumphant, very well-executed album by a truly talented musician who surrounded himself with equally talented, great artists. The concept, arrangements and execution are all first-rate. Without a doubt, this is one of the best straight-ahead jazz CDs I heard in 2012! Strongly recommended!

Recorded in 2011. This Japanese edition includes two bonus tracks not included in the US edition.
