Artist/Band: | | Stan Getz | Name: | | Out Of Nowhere [CD] | Cat No.: | | MMEX-151-CD | Performed by: | | Stan Getz (tenor sax) Jan Johansson (piano) Ray Brown (bass) Ed Thigpen (drums) Oscar Peterson (piano) Herb Ellis (guitar) Gus Johnson (drums) Oscar Pettiford (bass) Joe Harris (drums)
| Release Date: | | 11/25/2011 | Description: | | Nowadays, it is rare to see never-before-released live recording of tenor legend Stan Getz released, and it is a welcome event for his fans and jazz afficionados in general. Materials in this very special album were recorded in three different concerts in Europe between 1958 and 1960, a period when Getz resided in Sweden and Denmark with his Swedish wife Monica and their young children.
The first four tracks were recorded in Zurich in 1960 with Jan Johansson, Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. Tracks 5 and 6 were recorded in Stockholm in 1958 with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown and Gus Johnson. Tracks 7-9 were recorded in Copenhagen in 1959 with Jan Johansson, Oscar Pettiford and Joe Harris. They have never been released before except Tracks 7-9 which have been released as an obscure bootleg in Denmark.
Barely in his thirties, Getz sounds very mature and confident in these recordings, displaying delicate sensibilities on ballads and groovy drive on up-tempo numbers. This is a truly great album with surprisingly good sound quality!
This album is simultaneously released on CD and LP, and only 999 copies are available on each format. Each copy is hand-numbered, and the LP is pressed on 180-gram high quality vinyl. CD or LP, this is a true collector's item, and Mr. Johfu of Marshmallow tells me that they are going FAST. Get your copy NOW before they are gone forever!
Recorded live in concert at Congress Hall, Zurich, April 8, 1960 (Tracks 1-4), Concert Hall, Stockholm, May 20, 1958 (Tracks 5-6), and Falkoner Center, Copenhagen, October 25, 1959 (Tracks 7-9). The CD comes in a gate-fold mini-LP, paper sleeve package and includes liner notes in English by Mitsuo Johfu. Mono.
This is a CD edition. The LP version is available here. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
