Introducing Audia Records, an independent jazz label from Galicia, a Northeast province of Spain!
Pianist Javier Constenla's debut CD from Audia Records opens with a very strong, Latin-tinged "Caravan." One is struck immediately by Constenla's Tete Montoliu-like pianism, steady beat of the electric bassist Quique Alvarada and the colorful drumming of Miguel Cabana.
The rest of the program are mostly originals (except for the quintessential bebop tune "Celia" interpreted with a twist and "Podria sucederte a ti" which is Jimmy Van Heusen's "I'm Walking Behind You") that defy casual expectation and easy catetorization. This trio embraces and celebrates their Spanish and Latin heritage in everything they do, and that's a good thing!
