A hot, trumpet-organ-drums trio from Sweden!
Trinity started in 2003 as a duo of the leader and drummer Ali Djeridi and the Hammon organ specialist Andreas Hellkvist, and became a trio in 2005 with the adition of young trumpeter Karl Olandersson (who was 26 years old at the time). The trio has since then won the hearts and minds of jazz fans in Sweden, playing in churches, pubs and jazz clubs over the years.
Their first CD, Paris Eyes shows why they are so popular. They have straight-ahead sensibility, great swing, wonderful technical skills and cohesiveness. The soulful Hammond B-3 of Hellkvist stands on the tradition of Jimmy Smith and Larry Young, with a bit of modernity of Larry Goldings. The amazing trumpet of Olandersson is brilliant and lyrical. Djeridi ties everything together with his swinging drums.
The program is also quite attractive, mixing standards ("Just Friends," and "Old Folks") with with compositions of jazz organists old and new ("Paris Eyes" and "Luny Tunes" by Larry Young and "Reboppin'" by Joey DeFrancesco). This is a great CD any way you look at it! Recommended!
