This famous album -- known for its eye-catching cover -- finds the hugely talented pianist and arranger Marty Paich with a West Coast all-star band. The 13-piece band features altoist Art Pepper (showcased on "Violets for Your Furs"), trumpeters Jack Sheldon and Conte Candoli, tenorman Bill Perkins, vibraphonist Victor Feldman and pianist Russ Freeman, among others. Paich brings fresh musical ideas to well-known jazz standards such as "It Don't Mean a Thing," "Love For Sale," "Moanin'" and "Things Ain't What They Used to Be."

Recorded June 30, July 2 & 7, 1959 in Hollywood, California. Stereo. This SHM-CD edition released in Japan on November 26, 2008. SHM-CD is playable with all regular CD players.
