Artist/Band: | | Kornel Fekete-Kovacs Quintet and Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra | Name: | | Integro/Grandeur | Cat No.: | | BMCCD-177 | Performed by: | | Kornel Fekete-Kovacs (flugelhorn,trumpet) Gabor Bolla (soprano sax,tenor sax) Robert Lakatos (piano) Marton Soos (bass) Andras Mohay (drums) & others
| Description: | | Kornel Fekete-Kovacs is a talented trumpeter, composer and arranger from Hungary, and Integro/Grandeur is a mind-bogglingly ambitious project. He composed and arranged six numbers for his stellar quintet, featuring our favorite Hungarian pianist Robert Lakatos and saxophonist Gabor Bolla, plus a full philharmonic orchestra.
Unlike some of the orchestra-meets-jazz combo projects in the past, the orchestra is not just used to add color in the background. In the opening track it's just the orchestra for the first eight minutes, and it sounds like a full-fledged contemporary classical composition before the quintet comes in. There are other tracks in which the quintet is the dominant force, but even then, the orchestra plays a crucial, integral part.
This is an incredible, adventurous program of music that provides a deep listening experience.
Recorded November 26-29, 2009. The Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by Laszlo Kovacs, and violin solos on Track 4 and 6 are by Balazs Bujtor. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
