Description:Japan-only CD reissue of Crown Records jazz albums!
Limited paper sleeve edition!

P-Vine Records of Japan should be congratulated for digging deep into the vaults of Crown Records, a Los Angeles-based label that existed from 1957 to 1972, and reissuing a series of great jazz albums, many of which had never been reissued on CD!

Way Out Wardell is probably one of the most well-known jazz albums released by Crown Records. The live performances captured at Civic Auditorium in 1947, despite their less-than-optimal sound quality, have been cherished by jazz fans and musicians alike as the "bible" of bebop tenor sax playing. Wardell Gray's performance is truly inspired, imaginative, lyrical, flowing and modern; and it was completely ahead of its time. Brilliant!

Note: Track 3 "Tenderly" is a separate recording by the Erroll Garner Trio and Gray is not present.

Recorded at Civic Auditorium, California, on April 29 (Tracks 1 and 5) and February 27 (Tracks 2 and 4), 1947..
