Artist/Band: | | Paolo Di Sabatino Trio | Name: | | Atelier Of Melody | Cat No.: | | AS-081 | Performed by: | | Paolo Di Sabatino (piano) Marco Siniscalco (bass) Glauco Di Sabatino (drums)
| Release Date: | | 10/25/2008 | Description: | | From the Japanese label Atelier Sawano, which has introduced many splended European pianists to the Japanese jazz fans, comes a debut CD of Paolo Di Sabatino. Born in Teramo, Italy, in 1970, Di Sabatino started playing the piano at an early age, and obtained a jazz music degree from the Music Conservatory of Bari in 1994.
He has performed with many jazz luminaries such as Lee Konitz, Enrico Rava, Bob Mintzer, Billy Cobham and Dave Samuels, and played at numerous jazz festivals around the world. He also has released quite a few CDs under his own name in Italy.
In this Japanese debut CD, Di Sabatino shows his distinctly modern approach to piano trio music. He uses daring and often surprising rhythmic devices to turn familiar standards on their heads. More often than not, he avoids the traditional four beat swing. He infuses a dancing feel of tango to "You And The Night And The Music" and gives an unexpected, high-speed 7/8 treatment to "The Girl From Ipanema."
The overall result is a fresh, dynamic and exciting album that is often surprising and exhilarating. Di Sabatino and his bandmates clearly have great chops, wild creativity and fierce lyricism, and they all play at a very high level. As always the case with a Sawano release, the sound quality is also superb. Very highly recommended!
Produced by Yoshiaki and Minoru Sawano. Recorded April 25-27, 2008, at Skunk Studio in Bellante, Italy. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
