Description:Limited Edition EMI Japan Jazz Best & More Series!
Hard-to-find, rare reissue CD for a special low price!

This CD is actually a 2-in-1 deal, containing all the music originally released on two LPs, Gretch Drum Night At Birdland (tracks 1-3) and Gretch Drum Night At Birdland Vol. 2 (tracks 4 and 5). Monday night was traditionally a jam session night for the legendary New York jazz club Birdland, and on April 25, 1960, the drum manufacturer Gretch took over a session and invited four top drummers who endorsed its products.

The first two tracks feature Art Blakey and Philly Joe Jones, while the third track has Blakey, Charlie Persip and Elvin Jones and the fourth track has Philly Joe Jones, Persip and Elvin Jones. Supporting musicians are Charles Greenlee on trombone, Sonny Red on alto sax, Tommy Flanagan on piano and Ron Carter on bass, who was only 22 years old at the time. The exciting final track is performed by all four drummers and nobody else.

Recorded April 25, 1960. Stereo.
