Description:Limited Edition EMI Japan Jazz Best & More Series!
Hard-to-find, rare reissue CD for a special low price!

Ray Draper was the first -- and perhaps only -- jazz tuba player who elevated the huge unwieldly horn to a solo instrument. He caused a sensation when he came on to the scene as a teenager in the mid 1950s and played with many prominent jazz players such as Jackie McLean, Max Roach, John Coltrane, Don Cherry and Pharoah Sanders.

A Tuba Jazz is Draper's third album as a leader and prominently features John Coltrane in his top form as the other horn player in a quintet. Draper's solos may not be as good as those by Coltrane -- but then again, whose can be? -- but he holds his own considering the mechanical disadvantages he had to overcome.

A very rare jazz CD that should appeal also to John Coltrane completists! Recorded November 1958. Originally released by Jubilee. Mono.
