| Release Date: | | 07/27/2011 | Description: | | A wonderful charity CD by world-famous Japanese jazz pianist Makoto Ozone and his friends!
Jazz pianist Makoto Ozone writes in his liner notes about his reaction to the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear disaster that followed: "I found myself wanting to turn this unpredicted crisis into an opportunity to change thw world by cooperating with the artists all over the world. Also to explore the possibility of what music can do for broken hearts."
The result of this inspiration is this charity CD, Live And Let Live - Love For Japan. Ozone enlisted his friends fellow jazz musicians, and recorded all tunes in four sessions; one in Tokyo (with ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro), one in Florida (with Gary Burton and Chick Corea), and two in New York (with Christian McBride, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Randy Brecker, Paquito D'Rivera). In addition, Polish singer Ana Maria Jopek offered to include in this CD an unreleased track she and Ozone had recorded in Warsaw.
The program is eclectic in a true sense, ranging from a two-piano-plus-vibraphone trio performance of "Blue Bossa" to a Polish folk song "Kujawiak"; from a bob-based trio rendition of "Goldaze", a composition by Jeff "Tain" Watts, to two classically inspired songs ("Variations On A Dance" and "Adagio"). "Summertime" is performed by Ozone, Corea, Burton, with vocals by Corea's wife Gayle Moran. The final track is a Japanese song about home, sung lovingly by Ozone's wife Misuzu Kanno.
Recorded April 2010, April and May 2011. All proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to a Japanese earthquake recovery fund. The package includes full-length liner notes and participating musicians' comments in both English and Japanese. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
