Kristin Korb is a very talented bassist/singer I'm proud to introduce to the customers of Eastwind Import. A former student of the legendary Ray Brown, Kristin is a mainstay in the Los Angeles jazz scene. She also tours far and wide, and is a respected educator at the University of Southern California and Azusa Pacific University.
She is a superb bassist who carries the torch of the Ray Brown school, with a big fat tone and a strong sense of swing. That alone is enough to impress jazz fans, but she also happens to be a great singer, fully capable of up-tempo scatting and singing moving ballads. On top of that, she is an excellent arranger who takes familiar standards and transforms them with interesting twists, and the key is that she does it with intelligence, wit and taste.
Her 2006 recording, Why Can't You Behave is a perfect showcase for her multiple talents. On this swinging album, her regular trio with Llew Matthews (piano) and Steve Barnes (drums) is augmented by guests Andy Martin (trombone) and Larry Koonse (guitar). This is indeed an all-star LA band, and their performance is incredible throughout. Strongly recommended!
Recoreded August 20-21, 2006 at Stagg Streeet Studios, Van Nuys, California. |
