| | Release Date: | | 04/18/2012 | | Description: | | Pianist Dan Nimmer has been steadily building his career and reputation since he was recruited by Wynton Marsalis in 2004 as a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The Japanese independant jazz label Venus Records has been his steadfast supporter, ever since it released Nimmer's first CD in 2007.
His latest release from Venus Records is another winning trio date, with his contemporary band mates David Wong on bass and Pete Van Nostrand on drums. Throughout the program of well-known standards, Nimmer entertains the listener with joyous swing and clever arrangements. Informed by Wynton Kelly, Red Garland, Erroll Garner and Ahmad Jamal, Nimmer's sensibilities are definitely traditional and straight ahead. His touch is clean and strong, and as he shows again in this CD, imaginative playing and the ability to "tell a story" with his well-structured solos are his strengths.
Recommended to fans of straight-ahead piano trio music!
