Artist/Band: | | Carl Saunders Sextet | Name: | | Live in San Francisco | Cat No.: | | BP-J011 | Performed by: | | Carl Saunders (trumpet) Jerry Pinter (sax) Bill Reichenbach (trombone) Christian Jacob (piano) Dave Stone (bass) Santo Savino (drums)
| Description: | | Carl Saunders is a brilliant trumpeter who is well known on the West Coast. Technical genius who can play amazingly fast, soft, hot or cool as the occasion demands, Saunders has been featured in big bands led by Bob Florence and Bill Holman. Now the leader of his own Be Bop Big Band and other small groups.
On June 6, 2003, Saunders and his sextet descended onto an outdoor stage right in the Union Square and played beautiful music. Despite the wind and noisy environment, BluePort's engineer Jim Merod captured the exciting sound of the sextet very well. Indeed, the sound that comes out of this very rare, hard-to-find CD is vivid and life-like.
The attractive program consists of Saunders' and Christian Jacob's originals as well as a composition each by Joe Henderson and Duke Ellington. All band members are great but Jacob, well known for his long association with singer Tierney Sutton, stands out with his fiery solo on "Rush to Judgment," the highlight of this album.
Recorded live on stage on June 6, 2003 in San Francisco. Produced by Jim Merod and Michael Silver. Recorded direct to 2-track (24bit/96kHz) by Jim Merod. Mastered by Jim Merod and Steve McCormack at BluePort Sound. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
