Due to her limited exposure and scarce recordings, she may not be well-known outside of LA, but there are some ardent fans of hers in Japan, including Yasuo Sangu, the producer of SSJ Records.
Mr. Sangu and his fellows at the Sinatra Society of Japan invited the song stylist to Japan for the first time. Winters gave several performances in Tokyo, and this CD contains the recording of one of them. Accompanied by very capable Japanese pianist Kiyoshi Morita and bassist Masahiko Taniguchi, whom Winters described "so, so right," she sang 14 songs associated with Frank Sinatra before adoring fans.
Winters' voice and singing reflects her long years of life experience, wisdom, and warmth. Her understanding and expression of lyrics, and her subtle phrasing are so good that the listener is drawn deeply into each song without knowing what's happening. She may not dazzle you with an incredible range or flashy technique, but this kind of singing is even harder to master. If you haven't somehow heard of this fine singer by now, pick up this CD and start listening!
