| | Description: | | It is a real pleasure listening to this wonderful CD by Holly Hofmann, my favorite jazz flutist, and Bill Cunliffe, the talented, GRAMMY-winning pianist/composer/arranger. I have been a huge fan of this duo since I heard them live at a jazz festival several years ago. I collected all their CDs and was waiting eagerly for this latest release.
While the core ingredients are the same -- four arousing duo perfomances that alternately swing hard and demonstrate their training in and affinity for classical music -- they decided to add a third player on four tunes each, as the title suggests.
Violinist Regina Carter appears on the beautiful rendition of "Star-Crossed Lovers," trumpeter Terrl Stafford on the swinging title track, clarinetist Ken Peplowski on tricky "Reunion," and drummer Alvester Garnett on "Sweet Andy." Each guest brings something special to the table and helps make this album exciting with full of unexpected discoveries. Recommended!
