Release Date:02/20/2008
Description:The fourth release from the brand-new label Birds Records is a collection of blues by saxophonist Andy Snitzer. Snitzer may be known for his versatile studio work and collaborations with popular artists such as the Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, and Sting, among many others. His true colors as a straight ahead jazz musician became more widely known when he joined the Manhattan Jazz Quintet in 2000.

Among the CDs released in Japan, Cool Struttin' is the third straight ahead jazz CD under his own name. In a simple quartet setting (the pianist Alain Mallet plays the Hammond B-3 organ on some tunes), Snitzer blazes through this collection of blues and blues-inspired tunes with fluidity, confidence and inventiveness. The band is tight and the sound quality is quite good.

If you don't know the "jazz" side of Andy Snitzer, you are clearly missing out. Find out how great he is with this cool, soulful CD.

Produced by Shigeyuki Kawashima. Recorded at Sear Sound Studio, New York, on July 10, 2007.
