As we all know, Sweden is a country with a rich jazz tradition and apparently an inexhaustible talent pool for talented musicians and singers. Vivian Buczek is a relative newcomer who released her debut CD in 2003.
Her latest, released in Japan by Spice of Life, is a straight-ahead jazz affair dedicated to jazz giants Buczek respects and has been influenced by. With a slightly boyish tone, superb diction and perfect control, she navigates through the great jazz songs -- many of them originally written as instrumentals with lyrics added later -- without a hitch and with lots of positive energy.
Accompanying her is a trio led by veteran Swedish pianist Claes Crona, a giant in Swedish jazz scene who played with Putte Wickman and has been a strong supporter of Buczek's. Fabulous guitarist Andreas Oberg appears as guest on three tracks, making great contributions. Recommended to fans of jazz vocals!
