Previously unreleased Chris Connor recordings made for radio programs!
Chris Connor was one of the greatest female jazz singers of all time. This very special album compiles recordings she made for various radio programs. The first ten tracks are from 1959, recorded for radio programs sponsored by the U.S. Air Force (Tracks 1-7) and The Office of Civil and Defense Mobilization (Tracks 8-10). In these sessions, Connor is suppored by her regular trio of Ronnie Ball on piano, Ben Tucker on bass and Dave Bailey on drums, plus Mundell Lowe or Barry Galbraith.
Tracks 11 through 15 are from ca 1966. The first two were recorded with the Roy Bloch Orchestra for a radio program sponsored by The Office of Civil Defense, and the last three were for a program called "Savings Bonds" produced by the U.S. Treasury Department to encourage people to buy bonds.
Musically, the highlights are the first ten tracks, in which Connor shows her hot, swinging and dynamic side. This is a very nice collection and a must-have CD for fans of Chris Connor!
