The Jazz At The Concertgebouw Series is a stunning discovery!

For the first time ever, we get to listen to a series of live concert recordings of top American jazz musicians, made at the world-famous Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in the late 1950s and early 1960s!

This incredible 2 CD set contains a complete concert by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers which took place at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in November, 1959 during their second European tour. The group's popularity was incredible at that time, shortly after the release of their hit album Moanin'. This recording is also notable in that it captured Wayne Shorter who had just joined the group at the age of 26. Lee Morgan had assumed the role of musical director after Benny Golson left the group, and he was just 21 years old at the time! Solos by the two frontmen are simply superb.

The program features their hit songs from the album Moanin' as well as new compositions by Shorter ("Nelly Bly" aka "Mama G") and Morgan ("Goldie" aka "What Know"). Never before released, these recordings capture historic performances of a legendary jazz group during the time of transition. Although the sound quality of this particular release is not as good as the other titles in the series, the sound being in general somewhat distant, this CD is still a must-have item for serious jazz fans!

Recorded at Concertgebouw, Amsterdam on November 14, 1959. The insert contains a full-length liner notes in English and historic photos from the concert.
