Description:Allen Eager (1927-2003) may not be known to many jazz fans today, but he was an immensely talented tenor saxophonist who played with virtually all the bebop giants in the 1940s including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gilliepie, Thelonius Monk and Bud Powell, among others.
Recorded off live radio broadcast from Birdland in New York in 1951 and 1953, these three sessions have been previously released as a limited-edition LP in 1982, but the pressing was limited to only 450 copies, and they were gone in short order.

The first session (Tracks 1-3) was with Terry Gibbs All Stars, live at Birdland on October 6, 1951. The Second session (Tracks 4-7) took place on October 13, 1951, with the same personnel plus Mandell Lowe on guitar. The third session (Tracks 8-12) was also live at Birdland on September 19, 1953, with the Howarad McGhee Quintet.

Allen Eager and his bandmates swing like mad in these sessions, recorded in the golden age of bebop. Due to the nature of private recording, the sound quality is far from optimal, and there are significant tape hiss and other noise due to the conditions of the analog tapes (especially the third session). This CD cannot be recommended to everybody for this reason, is of special value to Eager's fans because he left very few official recordings.

Marshmallow pressed only 1,000 copies of this special limited-edition CD, and each copy is individually numbered. This collector item is packaged in a double-fold paper sleeve and contains a full liner note in English by Mark Gardner. We managed to secure just a few copies, so order soon!
