The present CD was recorded in 1992, but was never released. And this although the players are outstanding: pianist Bill Carrothers plays with Gary Peacock, one of the most in-demand bassists of the last decades, and Bill Stewart, a drummer with especially impressive credentials.
Here you can relive trio-play of the highest level: complex, intense, and communicative music filled with surprises. With its gripping sensuality, there is a sense of the unusual in the music, all the more so since the CD has a very special energy. It is as if one of the moments at which Bill Carrothers discovered his individual musical path was captured ???????? the Carrothers that is recognized today as the unconventional thinker who always approaches the playing of jazz standards from a different angle than most other musicians.
His originality, with its depth of implications, was already there, but here it is with an energy and creativity that breaks new ground ???????? the pieces have a special sort of strength and intrinsic excitement.
