Artist/Band: | | Atsuko Hashimoto Organ Trio and Voices | Name: | | Songs We Love | Cat No.: | | THD-501 | Performed by: | | Atsuko Hashimoto (organ) Yutaka Hashimoto (guitar) Juasa Kanoh (drums) Harvey Thompson (vocal) Toni Scruggs (vocal) Elijah Levi (vocal)
| Release Date: | | 09/14/2005 | Description: | | An eagerly awaited new CD from the Japanese Hammond B-3 organist Atsuko Hashimoto adds a twist to the usual trio format in the form of three singers: Harvey Thompson, Toni Scruggs and Elijah Levi. As usual, Yutaka, her husband, lends his capable hands on the guitar chair while the young drummer Juasa Kanoh contributes mightily with his sensitive, sharp and powerful drumming.
The program opens with "Ladybug," Atsuko's cool and memorable composition that showcases what the trio are capable of on their own. Three singers are mostly featured individually: Thompson's baritone on "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" and "You Don't Know What Love Is"; Scruggs' alto on "Bye Bye Blackbird" and "Nature Boy"; and Levi's tenor on "Misty" and "What's Going On." All singers join the trio on the explosive finale, "Stormy Monday." Yutaka's guitar is also featured on "My Ship" and "The Song Is You."
This is a very satisfying album with a great selection of songs, nicely executed. The sound of the trio is clean, crisp and exciting!
Recorded at Sanwa Recording Studio, Japan, in May 2005. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
