| Description: | | Fans of Eastwind Import and great-sounding XRCDs may already know the Japanese pianist Hiroko Kokubu from her XRCD24 release New York Uncovered, one of the best sounding piano trio albums in my opinion (and sadly out of print).
Bridge is an earlier "fusion" style album by Kokubu, produced by the XRCD guru and Grammy-winning producer, Akira Taguchi. This 1996 recording boasts a cast of top-notch fusion musicians on the West Coast: Alex Acuna, Abe Laboriel, Ramon Stagnaro and Tommy Coster, Jr.
Most of the tunes were composed by Kokubu. Two interesting exceptions are the cleverly transformed "Bridge over Troubled Water" by Paul Simon and "Lullaby of Takeda," a Japanese traditional folk melody. On "Baked Potato Man," Kokuby plays Piannica, which sounds like harmonica, and Andy Narell guest stars with his steel pans.
This is a highly enjoyable, high quality fusion album that was beautifully recorded and presented in glorious sound of XRCD!
Produced by Akira Taguchi. Recorded and mixed by Don Murray at Sunset Sound Studios, Hollywood, Ca., in September and October, 1996. This XRCD was mastered by Alan Yoshida at A&M Mastering Studios, Hollywood. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
