Japanese independent jazz label Atelier Sawano has been reissuing very rare albums originally released by Tempo Records, often referred to as the Blue Note of Great Britain. This CD edition of The Last Word by the Jazz Couriers is a red hot hard bop album that captured the most popular British jazz group at its height.
The Jazz Couriers, obviously inspired by the super-group with a similar name across the pond, was formed in 1957 when Ronnie Scott (tenor sax) joined forces with the young genius Tubby Hayes (tenor sax, vibes) and a rhythm section led by pianist Terry Shannon. It marked the true birth of hard bop in Great Britain, and the Couriers' popularity skyrocketed.
This exciting album, recorded in 1959, features the heated but friendly and harmonious "battle" between the two great tenor saxophinists who reigned supreme in the British jazz scene for a long time. Thanks to the tender loving care of the people involved in this reissue project, the sound quality of this CD is superb.
Originally produced by Tony Hall for the Tempo label. Recorded in 1959. Mono. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
