Maya Hatch (b. 1985) has been singing practically all her life. When she spent four years in Japan, her mother's homeland, she worked as a studio vocalist at NHK (Japan's public TV station) at a tender age of 12. Back in Seattle, she caught the jazz bug from great singer and educator Greta Matassa. She went on to study music and liberal arts at The New School in New York, receiving instructions from Jane Ira Bloom, Chico Hamilton and Junior mance. She recorded her debut CD, My Foolish Heart, for Spice of Life a few months after her graduation.
Her second album, recorded three years later, has a fantastic contemporary feel to it, a modern jazz with an R&B taste. She is once again surrounded by the top quality jazz talents of her generation--Gerald Clayton on piano and Fender Rhodes, Ben Williams on bass, and Jamire Williams on drums. Their arragnements of these well-known standards are fresh, daring and adventurous. Recommended!
Recorded at Avatar Studios in New York on April 19 and 20, 2012. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
