Artist/Band: | | Max Ionata Quartet | Name: | | Inspiration Live | Cat No.: | | ALBCD-024 | Performed by: | | Max Ionata (soprano sax, tenor sax) Luca Mannutza (piano) Giuseppe Bassi (bass) Nicola Angelucci (drums)
| Release Date: | | 05/28/2014 | Description: | | Born in 1972, Max Ionata is considered as one of the finest, cutting-edge tenor saxophonists in Europe. A late bloomer, he did not become a full-time professional musician until 2000, but since then, he's quickly established himself as one of the premier jazz saxophonists in Europe. He has won the Best Tenor Sax category of the Italian JAZZIT Award for two consecutive years.
Ionata's long awaited new leader album is an exciting live recording in a one-horn quartet setting. Recorded in a jazz club in Italy in 2013, Inspiration Live burns hot from beginning to end thanks to inspired performances by Ionata and his frequent collaborators: Luca Mannutza on piano, Giuseppe Bassi on bass and Nicola Angelucci on drums.
The program includes Ionata's early compositions "I Hope I Wish" and "Blue Art", Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Luiza", Ornette Coleman's famous blues number "When Will the Blues Leave" (with Ionata playing soporano sax) and "Shiny Stockings" arranged as a fast-tempo bossa. This great album is another testament to the vitality of the current Italian jazz scene and the country's deep talent pool. Recommended!
Recorded at Ueffilo Music Club, Gioia Del Colle, Italy, on January 13, 2013. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
